Ergonomic table lift solves safety and worker health problem

Bellemont, AZ was disconcerted to find that assembly workers employed a novel though potentially dangerous, solution to a work table height problem. SCA’s tissue products undergo packaging after production at an assembly area that involves manual manipulation of the products and operation of a wrapping machine. The table and equipment have a total weight of approx 1000lbs and a fixed height. Steve became aware after a new employee was hired that the height differential among the operators on each shift using the same workspace created a potentially unhealthy and unsafe condition. The taller operators could not work as well or as comfortably the others for which the height was more appropriate. Moreover, the operators had taken the matter into their own hands and fashioned a makeshift height adjustment solution consisting of four steel blocks that when inserted under the table legs would raise the table to the ideal height for the taller operators. The problem with this for SCA management was that the table was very heavy and there was the potential for injury when the mechanics would lift the table and insert the blocks.
Searching for a more elegant and safer solution for a high volume and important function in the plant, Steve contacted ErgoSwiss, a manufacturer of ergonomic hydraulic table lift systems. The solution provided by ErgoSwiss involved a simple manually operated pump and four cylinder/leg system that is easily attached to the existing table legs and provides up to 1000lbs capacity and 8 inches of travel. Each cylinder is built into a square aluminum tube with four threaded hoes for attaching the tube to the leg. The pump is attached to the underside of the tabletop and operated by a manual hand crank that moves the tabletop smoothly and silently 10 mm. per turn. The system was provided with all tubing assembled, connected and ready to operate.
SCA’s operators now have the ability to modify the height of the work surface to their individual needs and the dangerous and time consuming block solution is no longer necessary. A further benefit to the ErgoSwiss solution is that the operators can change the height throughout the day as they perform the operations in order to reduce the effects of repetitive stresses.

American Sales Development (ASD) has introduced the ErgoSwiss line of adjustable lift systems that allow automatic height adjustment of tables, benches, desks, or any other work surface from sitting to standing range. Many European kitchen product manufacturers and architects are designing movable kitchen islands cabinets and countertops to accommodate the demand for height adjustability in kitchen work areas.

The system consists of a simple single acting pump with either a manual or electronic control which controls the moving cylinders. The pumps are silent and the cylinders move effortlessly. PATIENT-CARE TABLE LIFT SYSTEM OFFERS STABILITY AND ERGONOMIC EASE

American Sales Development LLC (ASD) announces the ErgoSwiss TA type ergonomic table frame system that allows automatic height adjustment from sitting to standing range and great stability even at its most extended position. Patient care equipment such as massage tables, beds and examination tables often require adjustable height capability, for ease and comfort of the patient and the operator. This can pose a stability problem when fully extended. Excessive movement or sway of the table surface at is most extended position is unacceptable. To address these concerns, ErgoSwiss AG has developed the TA series, a guided table frame system that incorporates height adjustability and increased stability even at full extension due to the use of linear bearing guided cylinders incorporated into the structure of the table frame components. The TA System table frame capacity is 600kg and at its full extension the increase in lateral movement over the non-extended movement is 2mm measured 500mm away from the table center. This stability is achieved by the use of an innovative guided roller system that performs the dual functions of decreasing friction between the cylinder’s moving parts and the frame structure that supports the table. The roller guide system is comprised of a series of engineering plastic rollers supported within a frame that attaches to the table leg interior. The rollers interface with the cylinder’s shaft and provide smooth and silent support to the shafts as they move through the range of motion. The table frame components include the oval shaped legs, cross members, tabletop supports, base supports and feet.
